The Rare One: Krysten Ritter

The Rare One: Krysten Ritter

I can’t remember exactly when I first saw Krysten Ritter, but I remember her shine bright like a diamond in the TV show Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 when that came out. I remember how sassy, funny and gorgeous she was. Then fast forward to last year when the hit TV series Jessica Jones staring Krysten Ritter as the superhero of the Marvel Comics came out. If you can call the 1st encounter a fling, this time I fell in love, I fell hard for Krysten Ritter and her character Jessica Jones. JJ embodies the modern day badass female superhero that we all strive to be. Though we are all fighting our own battles whatever that might be, but all doing what we can to better this world a little or a lot.

Then sh*t really hit the fan aka losing all cool when she commented on one of our Instagram posts of the Big Softy alpaca yarn. I remember it so vividly that day I was on my way to the Sheep and Wool Festival Rhinebeck. I was in the car as I was checking Instagram and came across her comment I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry (cry only because it’s the tear of joy). I’m pretty sure I asked my husband to pinch or punch me because is this for real? And she knits??? A lot? OMG, who knew?? Apparently lot of people except for me.

Then through obsessing over all her Instagram posts and seeing how amazing of a person she literally is in real life, now there is no going back. Krysten Ritter, I love you. I love how silly you are, how cute your dog Mikey is, your loving and humble soul. Yep. You are just too real and down to earth for anyone not to obsess over you.

Here we share some Q&As with Krysten Ritter herself. Thank you, JJ and to the rest you’re welcome. ;)

Q. Where are you from? and where do you live now?

I'm from a small town in Pennsylvania originally and currently live in NYC.

Q. Occupation?

Actress, writer, producer, and all-around hustler.

Q. Best advice you’ve been given?

When I was little my Poppop told me; in a nutshell - Don't take yourself too seriously, but if you don't think highly of yourself and whatever you're doing then no one else will either...

Q. Fav book?

I love reading books so it's hard to pick just one. I would say, of the past few years, I have loved Sharp Objects and The Goldfinch.

Q. How did knitting happen and who taught you?

Again, I have to credit a grandparent!

My Grammy taught me how to knit when I was a little girl. She was always knitting or crocheting and she was so next level. A few years ago, my boyfriend moved in and I had to clear out a closet to make room for his things and I came across my old knitting gear. I just sort of picked it back up again!  I had to reteach myself some techniques and new stitches via YouTube but it turned out to be a major creative outlet for me. There's a real sense of accomplishment when you make something with your hands. It also makes me feel very present. Is it cliche to say knitting is the new yoga? Because it totally is!

Q. What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever created? A gift or for self?

I love knitting things for other people - that is my absolute favorite. But I also love having an idea for a sweater and just making it myself.  I also crocheted a major rug for my house and I love it so much. That might be the coolest.

Q. What knitting tips/tricks do you have for people who want to try or just started?

Just dive in, don't be scared, don't get overwhelmed, and take it one step at a time. Just like life, right? I have gotten so many people on the knitting train lately... in my personal life, at work. It’s fun turning people onto a new hobby and it's been so rewarding for me to share the love.

p.s. If you know a Rare One that you find super inspiring that either knit, crochets or does weaving please email us about her/him at for a feature.
